John Davis

Visiting Scholar

Dr. John Davis is the Alice Pratt Brown Professor of Art as well as the Associate Provost and Dean for Academic Development at Smith College. His lecture will use the case study of Kenyon Cox to examine American landscape painting in general during the complex decade of the 1880s.  He will be looking in particular at some of the work produced by Americans who studied in France, and will also be speaking at some length about landscape theory and criticism during that time period.

This lecture is co-sponsored by the Visiting Artists and Scholars Committee and the Department of American Studies at George Washington University.
