Interpreting Icons: Re-envisioning the Exemplary

Interpreting Icons: Re-envisioning the Exemplary
Nov. 3 to Nov. 14, 2014
Gallery 102
Smith Hall of Art
Opening Reception: 5 pm to 7 pm
Curated by Eden Orelove

For this exhibition, artists selected an artwork they considered to be iconic and created their own inspired piece based on this choice. An image of the original “iconic” artwork and the contemporary creation are displayed together, enabling viewers to analyze the definition of the icon, and how individual conceptions of the term vary.  The show was curated by art history MA student Eden Orelove and features nine D.C. metro-area artists.
