From the curators:
On Display evolved from the fishbowl atmosphere of Classroom 102, the new student gallery space housed in Smith Hall of Art. Extrapolating from the literal definitions of space, the gallery elicits a sense of voyeurism, an issue often addressed in contemporary society. When confronted by all the polemics instilled in a phrase such as “On Display,” we discovered a rich opportunity for a themed show. In proposing this exhibition, we challenged the artists to consider the titular phrase and make it their own, whether that would engage explicitly exhibitionism, voyeurism, or commodity fetishism.
